Mountain Man

I swallowed my pride and gave birth to cherub wings
Which lift me to mountain peaks,
Where I dance in the moon beams.
That is where I meet him.

He sits among the pines
That overlook the dotted hillside,
Perched in branches that stretch towards God’s dreadlocks.
And he counts all of the trees
And all of the leaves.
Losing count and starting over and over,
And losing count and starting over and over.

Chasing my dreams until I’m out of breath
To fall asleep in the clouds.
I lose my count to start over and over
Before I ask, why?
I dry my eyes and weep no more
And fade into the delicate evergreen.
