The peel of bananas
So smooth and effortless
Surrounds the oblong fruit,
A natural shield of protection
Still,

I pull back the skin
Like stripping covers off a bed
All at once revealing its dull tone
And mushy center
Disappointment floods through me,
Thoughts like waves crashing in my mind
But then I remember,

The zest of lemons
Dicey and random
Flickering across my tongue
Little specks of flavor

I squirm at its sour taste
Like a thousand insults,
stabbed in my throat
It's not what I'm looking for

And finally

I see rays of light
Converge,
Bright and Blinding
Golden

Subtlety is unknown
always loud, always busy
Harnessing
Growing
Like sunflowers in a field
Aimed at amber
I was Waiting

For Yellow
