There upon that yonder oak tree
Sits a cherry red cardinal as free as can be.
In the morning the cardinal smiles and greets the oak with a sigh
Together these two watch the sun go by.

There upon that yonder oak tree
Sits a cherry red cardinal as happy as can be.
He flaps his wings and takes off telling the oak good-bye.
And together at night they watch the stars go by.

There upon that yonder oak tree
Sits two cherry red cardinals as free as can be.
They take of the oak and make a nest in that yonder oak tree.
All together they watch as the seasons go by.

There upon that yonder oak tree
Lives a small family of cherry red cardinals.
Together they raise the young and teach them to fly.
In the adventure and excitement they all say good bye.

But there upon that yonder oak tree
Remains one cherry red cardinal as free as can be
